A individual charged with pursuing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and remains open.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I believe."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Wouldn't that be important for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.

The tribunal was told that through emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.

On 9 October 2024, the father answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had communicated through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the time preceding the visit to Rothley, Leicestershire, in December 2024.

The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.

"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the visit to their residence, the defendant transmitted a text which expressed: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' home with our headlights off like private investigators. I desired to do this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The case proceeds.
