Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
